# Claiming Land

Everything you need to know about protecting your builds using GriefPrevention

## How to claim land

**You'll need a Golden Shovel.** Type /kit claim to get one, or craft one yourself. You earn claimblocks passively just by playing but can also buy more with /buyclaimblocks or /shop points.

1. **Hold your golden shovel** and right-click one corner of the area you want to claim.
2. **Walk to the opposite corner** of your desired area and right-click again.
3. You'll see **glowstone and gold blocks** appear at the corners, your land is now claimed!
4. To **check an existing claim**, hold a stick and right-click the ground to see the boundaries.

## Trusting players

| Command                    | What they can do                                    |
| -------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- |
| /AccessTrust \<player>     | Use buttons, levers, and beds                       |
| /ContainerTrust \<player>  | Everything above + chests, crafting tables, animals |
| /Trust \<player>           | Full build and break permissions in your claim      |
| /PermissionTrust \<player> | Everything above + can grant trust to others        |
| /UnTrust \<player>         | Revokes all permissions for that player             |
| /UnTrust All               | Removes all permissions for every player            |
| /TrustList                 | Lists who has permissions in the claim you're in    |

## Managing a claim

| Command                   | Description                                                |
| ------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| /ClaimsList               | Lists all your claims and remaining claimblocks            |
| /AbandonClaim             | Deletes the claim you're standing in (refunds blocks)      |
| /AbandonAllClaims         | Deletes all of your claims at once                         |
| /ClaimExplosions          | Toggles whether explosions can damage blocks in your claim |
| /BuyClaimBlocks \<amount> | Purchase extra claimblocks using server money              |
| /GivePet \<player>        | Transfer ownership of a tamed animal to another player     |

## Subdividing Claims

Subdivision lets you split one large claim into smaller sections, each with their own trust permissions, perfect for shops, communal bases, or renting out plots.

1. Run /SubdivideClaims to switch your shovel into subdivision mode.
2. Click two corners **within an existing claim** to create a subclaim.
3. Optionally run /RestrictSubclaim inside a subclaim to **prevent it from inheriting** the parent's trust list.
4. Run /BasicClaims to switch back to normal claiming mode when done.
